Villa Mannino Sweeps the County (3-Peat)

| Villa Mannino last night closed out what has to be one of the most remarkable runs in Mercer County History by a League Team. After winning the Trentonian's Top Bracket on Sunday they came back less than 24hrs later and took down the County's Top League for a third straight year. I honestly can and will not believe what just happened in 24 hrs. It was a perfect ending for the Villa Mannino Boys and Coach/Sponsor Marco Mannino. For Marco it concluded a re-markable run that will most likely see hes name up on the ballot for the Mercer County Softball Hall of Fame. Villa Mannino once again for the third straight year beat Bills Olde Tavern in the Championship 2 games to 0. The first game both teams came out flat which was expected after both teams playing late into the night the night before in the Trentonian's Top Metal Bracket. Villa Mannino held on for a game one victory bye a score of 15-12. Game two was and instant classic, Bills Olde Tavern came out on fire hitting missles all over the field and all Villa Mannino tried to do was "hold the rope" and see what happens. Down 28-9 in the 4th Villa Mannino was on the verge of getting blown off the field and being dealt there first loss in (3) years in the playoffs. But it would not hold true as they scored 8 in the 4th to cut Bills Olde Tavern's lead to 11 entering the 5th. A goose egg by Bills in the top half proved to be all the 3 Time defending Champs needed as they put (13) on the board in the bottom half to rip the heart and sole from Bills and go on to win 31-28. A game by those that played and those that watched this one will be rememebered and spoken about for a long long time. I wanted to say thanks to my brothers on this squad as I have never been so proud. Congratulations to Marco, well deserved. |

What else can you say, Villa Mannino swept through The Trentonian's Top Bracket yesterday and won another title for Marco. This was extra special since the Villa Mannino Boys have now won everything they have ever entered. After winning the Mercer American League and Playoffs numerous times, winning the Ocean City Maryland Bash at the Beach and now The Trentonian's Top Bracket and other numerous titles along the way the Sun begins to set on one of Mercer County's Best League Team's in History. Once again thank you Marco for everything its been a wonderful and crazy ride with memories that will last a lifetime.

After going thru a disapointing second place finish this year in league at 16-8 the Villa Mannino Boys seem to have put it together 15 running the last 3 out of 4 games they have played.
Playoffs: In yesterdays action Villa Mannino beat a tough and scrapy 33 Barber Shop team for the second straight year 2-0 in the first round best of three. 33 Barber Shop consists of the NMR guys and a good young nucleus of up and comers. In the first game Villa Mannino held a 25-19 lead going to the top of the 7th but NMR put 7 on the board to take the lead. Villa Mannino than came back in the bottom half and walked off. In the second game Villa Mannino controled the game from start to finish in a 15 run mercy rule. Next up for the 3rd year in a row Villa Mannino vs Bills Olde Tavern in the "SHIP". Will Villa Mannino make it three years in a row? |
